With a city that offers so much, the best way to take it in is by living in the center of it all. At Moontower, we’ve helped hundreds of people find their home in Phoenix, so we know how important it is to make a well-informed decision for the best living experience possible.

That’s why we’ve compiled this list of four reasons to live in downtown Phoenix.

4 Benefits of Living in Downtown Phoenix

1. You can walk everywhere

When you live downtown, you’ll quickly realize that the walkability is easily one of the best parts of living there. With an array of amazing bars and restaurants around town, especially on Roosevelt Row, there is no shortage of great new places to explore – all within walking distance of your apartment.

In addition to the best social spots, there are several conveniently located stores for everyday needs. Between Milk & Honey Market and Fry’s Food Stores, there’s no need for a car downtown.

Plus, even if you’re looking to explore Phoenix outside of walkable downtown, most other restaurants, bars or stores are just a short Uber or Metro ride away.

2. Enjoy your favorite music or sporting events

Phoenix is known for its versatile music scene and, of course, the Phoenix Suns.

Hance Park is within walking distance for many downtown Phoenix apartments and offers popular events including M3F (McDowell Mountain Music Festival), Pizza Festival, ZONA Festival, and Local First Arizona Fall Festival. You can also check out the Crescent Ballroom, which hosts a variety of music artists, songwriters and trivia games almost every night.

If you want to catch the next Suns game, the Footprint Center is also conveniently located right in downtown, so no need to stress about finding parking or dealing with traffic. The Footprint Center also doubles as a music venue, so when the Suns aren’t in town, you can still take advantage of this amazing venue that’s right in your backyard.

Or, if you’re more of a baseball fan, Chase Field is just across the street from The Footprint Center, so you never have to miss a Diamondbacks game.

3. There’s a strong focus on sustainability and supporting local

With an abundance of local businesses in the downtown Phoenix area, residents value supporting local businesses in contrast to large chains.

Organizations like Local First Arizona and Roosevelt Row business Modified Arts are working to keep Phoenix as local-oriented as possible, in hopes of stimulating the nearby economy.

In addition, as Phoenix continues to grow, residents are moving away from car transportation and leaning towards public transportation (for places that aren’t walkable). To aid this transition, the city is investing in the expansion of the light rail, Waymo rideshare, as well as scooter programs and designated bike lanes.

Most apartments in downtown Phoenix also offer bike parking for a low monthly cost.

4. Build friendships and community with ease

Downtown Phoenix is home to a vibrant group of people with all kinds of interests, meaning you’ll have plenty of opportunities to carve out your personal community. A common thread between the residents of downtown is that they want to connect with the city and with others while embracing the urban lifestyle.

Living in the center of the city is a perfect way to expand your social circle. With every type of bar imaginable, plus an assortment of festivals and activities nearby, there’s no shortage of things to do and people to meet.

Roosevelt Row is the hub of social life in downtown Phoenix. Whether you’re looking to grab a bite to eat, have a drink, go shopping, or admire the local art, Roosevelt Row has it all. It’s also the home of one of Phoenix’s largest and most iconic events, First Friday.

First Friday is the ultimate way to experience the city’s love for the arts. From around 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., you can explore dozens of vendors, musicians, artists and businesses right in the center of downtown. With its convenient location on Roosevelt Row, First Friday is within walking distance of many apartment buildings, so you won’t have to worry about parking when you live downtown.

We hope that this article helped you visualize life in downtown Phoenix and everything the city has to offer.
